Traditionally, our Loess Syrah from the esteemed Leonetti Cellar estate vineyard is elegant, graceful, with floral notes. We discovered that as the 2007 vintage bottled aged, it was moving in an earthy direction. As a result we adjusted our viticulture techniques with the 2008 vintage to encourage the earthy, terroir-driven profile by co-fermenting with 10% Viognier (also from Loess) and adding back 30% dry stems.  Aromatically this wine offers red fruits such as raspberry and sweet cherry, cured meats, iodine and a touch of white pepper. The palate offers creamy cherry at the tip of the tongue proceeded by tart raspberry with slight minerality in the mid-palate. Bright, lingering acidity is complimented by fine and focused tannins. Aged 16 months in seasoned French oak, this wine will age well, from 8 to 10 years. Have a bottle with lamb skewers or foie gras donuts.
