Mars Hill
Mars Hill is one of the highest elevation vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley (at just over 1,300 feet elevation), planted along the southern-most ridgeline of the AVA directly above the esteemed Seven Hills Vineyard. Originally planted in 1981, Seven Hills is one of Walla Walla's most renowned and prestigious vineyards, and provides fruit for many of the top wineries in Washington State. We planted the first 12 acres of Mars Hill in 2007 and began making wines from this site starting with the 2009 vintage.
Now canvassing over 200 acres, Seven Hills Vineyard is one of the Walla Walla Valley's most renowned and prestigious vineyards and provides fruit for many of the top wineries in Washington State. In 2004, Seven Hills was named one of the "10 great vineyards in the world" by Wine & Spirits Magazine. In 2006, we acquired 27 acres at the very top of the ridgeline directly above Seven Hills Vineyard, and after extensive soil preparation and nutrition applications, we planted just over 10 acres to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Tempranillo in the spring of 2007. At just over 1,300 feet elevation, this vineyard boasts of some of the best views of the Walla Walla Valley, and helps minimize the risk of winter freeze damage through steady trade winds and excellent air drainage.
