Mendelssohn in the Cellar

On June 18th we had the privilege of hosting the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival  and nearly 75 of their guests to hear Mendelssohn Octet in E Flat played in the confines of our cellar.  This was a moving piece, played beautifully, on one of the most breathtaking evenings of the summer and in one of the most beautiful settings in Walla Walla!

It was a rather surreal moment to stand in the back, outside the winery and hear the music flowing so gracefully out the doors of our cellar.  The music was accompanied so divinely with the beautiful song of the many birds which make their way to the pond each day near dusk.  Some of the children in attendance were inspired to dance and frolic in the open space on the lawn and the innocence and joy of the scene contrasted so beautifully with the sophisticated and timeless classical music radiating from the winery.  Even the farmer next door, on his tractor tending his sweet corn and tomatoes added to the beauty of the scene.  Beauty reigned all around and it was breathtaking.  Thanks be to God!

And there in the midst of it all were our wines, in barrels, stacked high and surrounding the musicians and the guests.  In some strange way we sensed that they too were moved by this experience and were inspired to deliver even more elegance and beauty when it comes time for them to perform for you in the future.  Now that's biodynamic winemaking!
